Online Meetup: How to start a career in the creative industry

Starting out in the creative industry can be incredibly challenging these days. With so many talented professionals vying for the same opportunities, the competition is fierce. New designers often find themselves struggling to stand out in a crowded field, where experience and a well-established portfolio can make all the difference.

But what does it take to create a stellar portfolio that stands out from other applications? How do you write a kick-ass cover letter? Do you even need a cover letter?

Yiping Deng and Franziska Veh will answer those questions and give valuable advice and tips on how to start out, and how to build a career:

Yiping is a Career Development Advisor at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences, and will explain how to plan a career. As a career advisor she provides guidance for students and graduates, transitioning from academia to the professional world. She can help to identify individual strengths, set career goals and provide strategies for job searching and career paths.

Franziska is running her own studio, Studio Veh, for more than 15 years and knows how tough it can be to make a name for yourself. As a studio owner, she has received hundreds of applications and can tell you what makes a good portfolio and a good application.

From portfolio setup over preparation for interviews to networking opportunities: Yiping and Franziska give insights into industry trends and help graduates to launch their careers successfully.
